Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need?
Would you be shocked if I said “it depends”?
Number of items in the home (and how large the space is)
Your ability to make quick decisions
Whether you can be free from distractions during sessions
Your willingness to do homework
Review what we can accomplish in a 4-hour session (below) and that may give you a sense for the level of effort. There are several sub-categories to tackle, not all take a full day but collectively take several days. We can power through or take time over a series of months. Whatever your motivation is, I’ll meet you there.
Typically clients buy a larger package of sessions (at least six sessions). They know they’ll need the support to move through the categories, and they don’t want to feel rushed.
What can I do to prepare for my first session?
Nothing! I want to see you in all your glory. How you live, what’s driving you crazy, what you wish for in your space. This is a judgement free zone and I encourage you to embrace where you are so you can enjoy the journey that much more.
Having said that, if we’re starting with clothing together I recommend getting your laundry done.
Do I have to start with clothing?
In short, you'll be glad you did! The KonMari Method® is all about learning what sparks joy, and your clothing helps you figure that out quickly. Clothing is closest to your heart, gives you confidence and allows your personality to be known. We can usually get through the clothing category in one session. After this session, you've established your spark joy meter and now have the momentum you need to keep going.
Should I buy storage containers?
Please no. But if that is your thing just make sure there is a generous return policy. We will make use of the items that you already have in your home which in most cases is sufficient, However, I can make recommendations for product to organize systems we put in place once we see what’s left to put away.
What if I don't want to discard something?
Then keep it with confidence! There is absolutely no pressure to discard anything you want to keep. All of the decisions are yours to make, and I’m confident you’re going to make great ones! If at any point you’re feeling lost, I’ll show you the way.
Do you work in my area?
For local clients, I travel up to 45 minutes surrounding metro-west Boston. I do sometimes travel to clients outside of this area. If that’s you let’s talk!
All of my packages can be done virtually, so that’s a great option if you live outside my area.
What can we accomplish in a 4-hour session?
A Closet Overhaul This is the perfect amount of time to tackle your closet. We’ll joy check everything, re-home discards and then put back in an inspiring wardrobe boutique!
Pantry + Fridge We’ll get everything out, check expiration dates and optimize storage. Zones are the MVP for this category that impacts your daily life!
Laundry Room + Bathroom We’ll make sure your products are current and useful, then optimize storage and efficiency.
Keep in mind 4 hours is the sweet-spot where you’re in the zone. There will be warm-up time and time needed to unwind after so be sure to arrange for an extra ice cream for the kids while they’re away.
What will it cost?
Did you know the average American spends annually:
$3,000 in mental health costs
$7,560 on home improvements (new floors and countertops to clutter?)
$1,932 on clothing
My clients say that de-cluttering is the single-best investment they've made.
Why should I hire a professional organizer?
We all have the power to organize our own spaces. Hiring a professional organizer gives you accountability to make sure you are sticking to your goals. A professional organizer ensures that you set aside dedicated time and energy to devote to the process. Most importantly, this is an investment in yourself. Specifically, a KonMari Method® consultant teaches you how to develop a relationship with the things you own, recognize things you no longer need or want, and analyze things to be brought into the home in the future. It is a guided transformation that is part girl (or boy) time, part good citizen practice, hard work and beautiful results that will stay with you forever.
