Books I’ve learned from and enjoyed
I am forever a student
My new favorite person! I had the privilege of attending Mary Cheyne’s Public Speaking Bootcamp in Boston and she is now my business mentor. She had me shouting my declaration to the bootcamp that “I am a badass!!” (oops didn’t mean to swear). LOVE her ability to unlock what’s already in me.
“In the United States, teenagers can focus on one task for only sixty-five seconds…office workers average only three minutes". — Stolen Focus
I peppered this book with sticky notes and intend to share with my teenager (who will likely only read the sticky notes). If you’ve seen The Social Dilemma about Facebook and its trail of warnings around stealing our focus, you’ve read 2-3 chapters of the book. The rest is fascinating, from a growth economy to pollution in the air. All contributing to our inability to sit within ourselves and truly focus on a task at hand.
Not gonna lie. Turning 50 has messed with my well-being and stamina. I am so curious about how the body works and can heal itself. This book is AMAZING.
I’m a maker at heart! I’ve discover paper flower making. I am in the process of researching different flower details and discovered these beautifully photographed books.
One I will definitely share with my teenager. Filled with “pearls” of advice from fantastic mentors. All sharing a common theme: don’t be afraid to fail and learn from it, find your passion and step into it with all you have.
Recommended at the 2022 Massachusetts Conference for Women. I love the beautiful and playful writing. Reminds us to find joy in the every day.
Marie’s new book redefining what joy means to her.
By applying Marie Kondo's time-tested query—“Does it spark joy?”—to your mindset and behaviors, you are invited to take an even more holistic and personal approach to curating your environment by imagining what your life could look like full of connection and free from any limitations. This ideal vision then becomes a touchpoint that helps you make conscious, mindful choices—from how you use every corner of your living space to how you take advantage of every moment.
As a parent of a child with special needs I connect immensely with his empathy and message for young children to be his neighbor no matter who they are.
The book that started it all for me. Also enjoyed Marie’s follow-up books “Spark Joy” (Illustrated) and “Joy at Work” - organizing your professional life.
I’ve incorporated new tiny habits that snowball into one big result. Getting more time for myself! My then 13-year-old even gave it a try.
The backbone of my business model and vision to work with my ideal clients so that I can bring them the best of me every day.
Interesting comparison to historical businesses and how we are service-oriented today.
Fascinating timely observation of how businesses are affected (or will be) by the pandemic.
One of the pioneers in organizing. I got a good giggle from the dated technology throwbacks.
Great showcase of The Home Edit’s products which can be found at the Container Store.
Classic for service businesses.
I truly loved this book. I was able to put into practice immediately with joy-sparking results. Whether you’re a leader or not, this is a thought-provoking look at your everyday bias.
Just as the title indicates. I choose joy everyday.
Recommended from my professional book club. I loved reading about business start-ups and challenges in the 60s so fascinating compared to today!
Written by a young women in a wheelchair. Her point-of-view is priceless.
Taking a break from business and self-help. My father found this for me - he knows I love cookbooks (I love to look at the pictures, I am in no way a ‘cook’). This is a super fun novel following an American in Paris and the recipes from the French meals she enjoys along the way. I am growing envious of the ‘day-of’ shopping trips for every meal.
